Not sure why people think this is a great film, good yeah, but not great. Maybe it’s Louis Malle’s name being attached to the film. Maybe it’s the wonderful performance by an aged Burt Lancaster. All I can say is that I enjoyed this story about a has been gangster who is given the opportunity to be somebody again, if only for a short time. Therefore, I can only say it’s worth a look.

Yeah, I'm with you here. I liked it well enough, but I didn't find anything that special in it. Even Lancaster's performance I just think is really good. Hardly classic status.
