This film is pretty easy to sum up. Think, The 400 Blows (1959) crossed with Oedipus. The boy Thomas is unhappy because a man named Oscar is trying to take his place in his relationship with his mother. Thomas tries messing around with a young girl named Toni, but nothing really comes of it. The film looks just like The 400 Blows. All that’s missing from the visual style is a tracking shot and a freeze frame at the end.

Director Fons Rademakers definitely has a streak of realism in him. It’s no surprise that it says online that he had been an assistant to both Jean Renoir and Vittorio De Sica.
