What a shame. I really wanted to like this movie. Unfortunately, you don’t feel like your watching kids fighting in Vietnam. You feel like your watch kids pretending to be kids fighting in a backyard that’s supposed to be Vietnam. Ok, it’s not quite that bad, but the lack of professional actors isn’t an asset for this film.
The movie is about a soldier and cameraman who get assigned to a squad. We see what the camera shoots. What we largely get are empty silences punctuated by stupid stories about the FU lizards and songs that go like this, “This is my weapon, this is my gun, with this I kill people, with this I have fun.” These are interesting little nuggets that would be nice if they came up in an interview with veterans, but they don’t have the desired effect of adding realism to this film because the actors just don’t pull it off convincingly.
There is some combat and a supposed twist at the end you can see coming a mile away. It’s not awful, but it just didn’t work for me. Approach it with caution for the aforementioned nuggets.
