|You Know Your Film Might Be Racist When…|
Poor Josephine Baker, I expected racism after seeing Zouzou and Princess Tam Tam, but this was more explicit and Baker needs sound desperately. Without sound she just acts zany and dances just as crazy. It’s a waste really. The only thing that is noteworthy is how the film will occasionally shift ahead cinematographically for short periods making one wonder if Luis Buñuel did those sequences as assistant director. Nevertheless, it’s not enough to merit a viewing of this film. See one of the two previously mentioned Baker films and skip this one. I don’t recommend it.
