I am so glad this film came along. I’ve been giving Worth A Look’s and Approach With Caution’s to nearly every film. Finally I can give a recommend to a film.
Sure the plot’s generic, it’s a road movie. What every road movie depends upon is that we love the characters that are on the road. In Midnight Run the characters created by Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin are wonderful. I laughed the whole time and when it got to the end I truly believed that the two characters had become close enough for De Niro to do what he does.
What takes the film up another notch is that surrounding De Niro and Grodin are amazing character actors. Director Martin Brest brought over the hilarous John Ashton from Beverly Hills Cop and brought one of the icons of blaxplotation Yaphet Kotto in as well. There are many others, in fact just about every supporting role is filled with recognizable talent.
I can truly say that just about everyone will enjoy this film. It’s no masterpiece, and it’s trying to be, but you will have a good time. I recommend it.
