This is not a great movie, but definitely a cult movie. This movie is basically a cross between The Legend Of Billie Jean (1985) and Vanishing Point (1971). The Legend Of Billie Jean is about a teenage girl who shoots a rapist and goes on the run with some other kids. She ultimately becomes a cult figure and is worshiped like she was Joan Of Arc. Vanishing Point is about a guy who leads cops on a high speed chase from Colorado to California to ultimately plow the car into a roadblock made of tractors because he doesn’t want to stay in such a cruel world.
Thelma & Louise is about two women who shoot a rapist go on the run and drive off into the Grand Canyon because they don’t want to live in a man’s world. That’s really all there is to it. Ridley Scott does a good job directing the film, but it’s nothing special. I don’t like to use the phrase “chick flick”, but the best way to describe this film is as a chick flick with balls. If it were just a chick flick I might say pass, but the fact that it doesn’t pull any punches and follows the story to it’s logical conclusion makes it worth a look.
