On The Town is a middle of the road Freed musical. Three sailors on shore leave have a day to spend in New York. They meet three women and there a musical numbers. At the end they have to get back on the boat. The End.
I’m not a big fan of musicals and even Gene Kelly couldn’t improve this one. It’s worth a look if your a fan of musicals because it isn’t bad and does have both Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in it. It’s worth a look.
I am not going to beat around the bush. This movie is worth a look for Audrey Hepburn and only Audrey Hepburn. The music is average, the plot is average, and Fred Astaire in his old age is mister average. But when Audrey smiles, your world lights up. I have been really depressed the past few days and nothing made me cheer up like seeing her smile. She was a truly unique woman who will never be forgotten. I suggest seeing Breakfast At Tiffany’s or Wait Until Dark in addition to or replacement of this picture.
